Based on the manga ‘Bleach’ by Tite Kubo, Bleach follows the life and adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki who was just a high school student who could see ghosts. All of this changes when he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a soul reaper and reluctantly helps her fight against Hollows and becomes a soul reaper himself. Okay, I know, it’s a lot of potentially confusing terms and probably a lot more.

Let’s start at the basics, in Bleach there are two worlds; the human world and the spirit world of Soul Society. The latter consists of Shinigamis (Soul Reapers) who help protect innocent people from Hollows, and the souls waiting to be reincarnated back into the human world. The entirety of the soul society is ruled by the Soul King (not that important for now) and finally, Hollows, are human souls who don’t go to the soul society and turn into monsters when they continue to stay in the human world after their death (things will become clearer once you start watching it). As mentioned earlier, Bleach becomes a world exploring, supernatural anime that deals with the concept of souls and becoming stronger in order to protect your loved ones.

With brilliantly evolving art style, curiosity piquing combat systems and extremely engaging sword fights, highly memorable music and agreeably annoying fillers, Bleach is an anime that is still considered as part of the big three: Naruto, One Piece and Bleach, which dominated the anime world and for good reason.
With over 50 million copies of the Manga sold, 4 films, a rock musical, numerous video games, a trading card game and around 366 episodes filled with pure adrenaline pumped fight scenes and compelling storyline, Bleach becomes a must-watch for all otakus. If you like action, music, art, friendship, love and comedy in your list of genres then you’ll definitely enjoy the experience that Bleach provides.
